Dit boek was echt een keerpunt in mijn denken over geld en economie. Na het lezen van dit boek kon ik niet langer accepteren dat de economie is zoals die is. Als een soort natuurwet. Alle handelingen die er in een economie plaatsvinden zijn keuzes, culturele keuzes, regulerende keuzes en wetgevende keuzes. We kunnen als we willen onze economie en monetaire systeem totaal anders inrichten. Maar de conventionele wijsheid van de neo-liberale economische doctrine is dat het huidige syteem een vaststaand feit is, waar we hoogstend aan de randjes nog wat aan kunnen schaven. Maar na het lezen van dit boek weet je wel beter. Als arme mensen een schuld hebben dan zijn ze slecht met geld en moeten ze alles doen om deze schuld terug te betalen, zelfs als dat betekent dat ze met hun kinderen op straat moeten leven. Als rijke mensen schuld hebben is dat een manier om kapitaal te genereren om meer te kunnen investeren, en om vermogen tegen weg te kunnen strepen om zo doende minder belasting te hoeven betalen. Wat een waanzin.
